In business since 2018, ColoWell America provides the greater Tampa community with a variety of anorectal and gastrointestinal services. Their owner, Dr. Farooq, has been an avid adopter of technology and constantly strives to find new ways to bring relief to his patients.

During his residency in 2008, Dr. Farooq saw the limitations that came with other anorectal systems. “In my residency, we used an expensive, very intensive system,” notes Dr. Farooq. “It required a full room and a lot of setup to do even one procedure.”

He knew there had to be a better way to do this vital procedure. And that’s where Medspira comes in.

Medspira’s Involvement

Dr. Farooq first saw Medspira's mcompass® anorectal manometry system at a medical device conference. “I was blown away when I first saw the mcompass system,” he remembers. “The product is very small—about the size of a standard mobile device.”

As he talked with the Medspira rep, he could see the possibilities instantly. “It’s just so easy to use and efficient. Plus, it’s far cheaper than any of the other products on the market. It was truly a no-brainer.”

Getting up and running with the mcompass system was another positive. “They sent a representative to our clinic to demonstrate the product and train our staff,” notes Dr. Farooq. His staff loved how simple and quick the system is. And in a busy clinic, where time is in short supply, that is vital.

“There is very little setup and no calibration. The entire procedure can be done in just a matter of minutes, and can be done by just about anyone on our staff.”

Results

ColoWell America’s investment in Medspira paid off instantly with new patients and new revenue streams. Currently, they do 3-4 procedures a week, with that number rising steadily.

In fact, the mcompass system has been such a positive addition, Dr. Farooq is adding a fecal incontinence program. He estimates that the new service line will grow the number of procedures he’s doing each week ten-fold.

“This is a very profitable product and has introduced new revenue streams for our growing clinic,” notes Dr. Farooq. “

In addition to growing revenue, it’s helped ColoWell America better treat its patients. “Now we have accurate, pre-operative data we can trust,” explains Dr. Farooq. “That, paired with functional testing, means we can give data to patients so they objectively assess their improvement.”
